University of Lorraine

The University of Lorraine promotes innovation through the dialogue of knowledge, taking advantage of the variety and strength of its scientific fields, and aiming at the promotion of knowledge transfer to irrigate innovation, economic growth, and the progress of fundamental science. Being the university of a whole region, Université de Lorraine is a major actor of its development, coordinating a regional research policy, and giving access to higher education to as many inhabitants as possible. 

The multidisciplinary research landscape in Lorraine brings together over 3,900 researchers in ten research main themes:  agronomy & forest , math & numerics, biology & health,  society & language, physics & chemistry, energy & processes, materials & mechanics, earth & environement, law & economy, history-geegraphy & litterature.

The University of Lorraine is also part of the Lorraine University of Excellence initiative (lue.univ-lorraine.fr) which aims to develop the international leadership of the Lorraine site on engineering, in order to address some major economic and societal challenges. The latter are fueled by fundamental and applied research which is focused on international high priority research fields that are at the core of our region’s historical strengths: preserving the environment and natural resources, implementing future energy sources, mastering the value chain of materials and products, advancing computer science, cybersecurity and automation, understanding languages and knowledge processes, maintaining health and fighting age related diseases, observing and predicting changes in institutions and organisations, heritage, identities and interculturality, as well as in general fields such as Mathematics, Social Sciences, Engineering and more.

The University of Lorraine & RDA

The University of Lorraine has been resolutely committed to Open Science since 2016 and the opening of its institutional archive HAL-UL (hal.univ-lorraine.fr). Open Science has been made a priority of its 2018-2022 establishment project. The University is currently developing services and infrastructures to allow local researchers and worldwide partners  to better manage their research data. This includes training, help around data management plans, and an institutional research data repository planned to open early 2022. The RDA expertise, interest groups and working groups, in which several University members are involved, are quintessential assets to achieve these goals.
