About the San Diego Supercomputer Center

Founded in 1985, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is a national leader in computational science and engineering, data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure. With decades of combined expertise in data integration and storage, performance modeling, data mining and predictive analytics, and software development, SDSC provides resources and services to the U.S. Research & Development community. Partnering on projects across academia, industry, government, and the public sector, SDSC supports multidisciplinary activities spanning a variety of domains including, astrophysics, bioinformatics and health IT, environmental and geosciences.

Within SDSC, the Research Data Services (RDS) division is focused on enabling computational and data-enabled research via a complete suite of computing services; research data consulting; active and archival storage (TB to PB scales); virtual and physical compute platforms; data center colocation; enterprise networking; and, expert UNIX and Windows system administration. In addition to these services, our R+D portfolio includes federally-funded projects that address data policy and regulatory management, design and delivery of technical and training resources, and community engagement and service coordination, and advancing FAIR and Trusted data across the academic research ecosystem.

San Diego Supercomputer Center & RDA

SDSC has been active with RDA since the early days, as one of its founders, Dr. Fran Berman, was a previous SDSC Director.  SDSC was an organizational host of an early RDA plenary in San Diego, California. RDA has been an important and connecting resource for SDSC as they have worked to integrate research data management practices into research computing offerings. We have extended the CARE principles across some of our projects, and continue to build awareness of the principles among the academic IT community.
