Dr Gerhard Goldbeck

Dr Gerhard Goldbeck is an experienced materials modelling software professional. He received his Diplom in Physics from RWTH Aachen University in 1986 and a PhD in Polymer Physics from Bristol University in 1992. His career so far encompassed academic research at Forschungszentrum Jülich (Dendritic Growth), H.H. Wills Physics Laboratory and Cambridge University Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, and software development, product management and marketing in industry (Molecular Simulations, Accelrys/Biovia). In 2011 he formed Goldbeck Consulting Ltd, a company that aims to bridge gaps in the materials modelling value chain from science to engineering and academia to industry. He is a member of the European Materials Modelling Council and leads the Work Package on Interoperability and Metadata.

This webinar will present two outputs from the RDA Research Metadata Schemas Working Group: guidelines with nine recommendations and a collection of crosswalks to support the process of publishing structured metadata on the web.  Data repositories that try to adopt structured metadata within and across domains would benefit greatly from the guidelines that would help ensure consistent implementation leading to enhanced discoverability and accessibility of data.

Publishing structured metadata on the web can provide a simple and efficient means to increase the FAIRness of research resources, however, the adoption of structured metadata requires a consistent implementation across data repositories in order to enable better interoperability of metadata, and therefore improve discoverability, accessibility, and reusability of data.

RDA CURE-FAIR WG: Introducing 10 Things for Curating Reproducible and FAIR Research Webinar

Curation for FAIR and reproducible research is the process of reviewing and enhancing a research compendium for long-term reuse.  Given the replication crisis and requirements of most journals that data and code be submitted upon acceptance or made available upon request as a condition for publication, it is imperative that researchers provide high-quality reproduction materials (i.e., data, code, documentation) that underlie their research.

This webinar presents "10 Things for Curating Reproducible and FAIR Research”, which are guidelines designed for curators and researchers interested in publishing and archiving reproducible research output.
