About GÉANT

GÉANT is a fundamental element of Europe’s e-infrastructure, delivering the pan-European network for scientific excellence, research, education and innovation. Through its integrated catalogue of connectivity, collaboration and identity services, GÉANT provides users with highly reliable, unconstrained access to computing, analysis, storage, applications and other resources, to ensure that Europe remains at the forefront of research.

Since its establishment over 20 years ago, the GÉANT network has developed progressively to ensure that European researchers lead international and global collaboration. Over 1000 terabytes of data is transferred via the GÉANT IP backbone every day. Through interconnections with its 39 national research and education network (NREN) partners, the GÉANT network is the largest and most advanced R&E network in the world, connecting over 50 million users at 10,000 institutions across Europe and supporting all scientific disciplines.

GÉANT and RDA

GÉANT staff have been active in the Research Data Alliance for several years and we look forward to pursuing greater collaborations between the NRENs, universities, funders and research communities. We see major opportunities in fostering links since the network is the core vehicle for transferring data and enabling global research collaborations. GÉANT advisor, Edit Herczog, serves on the RDA Council and is involved in the GEDE and FAIR data maturity groups, while Sarah Jones has chaired several Interest and Working Groups and now serves on TAB. Annabel Grant, who has led several e-Infrastructure projects for GÉANT in the field of EOSC and EuroHPC, will represent us on OAB.

Annabel Grant, Senior Stakeholder Engagement Manager. Annabel joined GÉANT in 2012 and has over 20 years' experience of project and programme management of regional, national and EC funded projects. She leads Stakeholder Engagement activities in the GN4-3 project including all aspects of stakeholder engagement, community building, partner relations, requirements gathering and feedback and is the lead coordinator for collaboration activities with other European e-infrastructures and EuroHPC. Additionally she contributes to a number of EOSC related projects including EOSC Secretariat and EOSC Future.
